Mel Gibson’s Rant Is Outrageous, Shameful

Insults to his wife, Blacks, and immigrants fuel division that begets violence 

 

Los Angeles – Mel Gibson, the famed actor, director and producer, is in hot water again for insults he spewed at his wife and against Blacks and Latino immigrants, according to audio tapes made public this week.  The following is a statement from Angelica Salas, Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), a regional human and immigrant rights not-for-profit community-based organization based in Los Angeles.

“Mr. Gibson’s latest rant is shocking and revolting.  His considerable talent is no match to his misogynist, racist, and anti-immigrant bantering. 

Of Australian descent and wielding considerable influence as a famous personality, Mr. Gibson should be aware his words add fuel to the anti-immigrant flames that beget violence.

CHIRLA denounces Mr. Gibson’s words and calls on him to publicly apologize to the immigrant community immediately.”
