THE SECOND ANNUAL HOLLYWOOD BRAZILIAN FILM FESTIVAL (HBR FEST) ANNOUNCES WINNERS

Following the Award Ceremony, HBR FEST concluded with a special screening of “Veronica” directed by Mauricio Farías and starring Andrea Beltrao

Los Angeles, California (February 08, 2010) – The 2010 edition of the Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival (HBR FEST) concluded on Sunday, February 7th with its Award Ceremony & Closing Night Celebration that took place at the legendary Egyptian Theatre in the heart of Hollywood. Festival co-founder Talize Sayegh led the award ceremony presentation.

Winners were announced in the categories of best feature film, best director, best short best actor and best actress. The 2010 HBR FEST RAW Award was also announced and this year’s recipient is Ludy Mattos for the short film “The Orange”. The HBR FEST RAW is a student film competition and the winner receives a one year scholarship to the New York Film Academy.

Following the award ceremony, filmmakers, celebrities and guests enjoyed a special screening of “Veronica” directed by Mauricio Farías. The film stars Andrea Beltrao, Marco Ricca, Matheus De Sa and, Giulio Lopes.

During the Closing Night Celebration, attendees were treated to delicious Brazilian cuisine from Fogo de Chao Churrascaria, a selection of wines from Pacifico Sur Tutunjian Estate Vineyards, tequila tasting from Asombroso, among others.

The Closing Night & Award Ceremony concluded the 2nd edition of the Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival where 15 of the best Brazilian films were showcased. HBR FEST ran February 4-7 and opened with a World Premiere presentation of National Security (Segurança Nacional). HBR FEST 2010 had a special screening of the classic 1962 film Keeper of Promises (O Pagador de Promessas), the first Brazilian film to win the Palm D’Or at Cannes and the first ever to be nominated for the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Film.
