AWARD WINNING TRANSSEXUAL ACTRESS MARIA CLARA SPINELLI TO ATTEND THE LOS ANGELES PREMIERE OF THE FILM “PAULISTA” AT THE 2010 HOLLYWOOD BRAZILIAN FILM FESTIVAL
Spinelli’s performance on “Paulista” has earned rave reviews in the film festival circuit and a best actress award.
Los Angeles, California (January 14, 2010) – The Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival (HBR FEST) will showcase the Los Angeles Premiere of “Paulista” on Saturday, February 6th at 8:30 PM; as part of the 2010 edition of the festival. HBR FEST will take place from February 4th to February 7th of 2010 at the legendary Egyptian Theatre located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, CA 90028.
In a case of art imitating life, actress Maria Clara Spinelli plays a transsexual lawyer that falls in love. Spinelli is scheduled to attend the festival.
Directed by Roberto Moreira, “Paulista” is a film about dwellers s of an apartment building on Paulista Avenue and their respective attempts to find and deal with love. Spinelli plays Suzana, a buttoned-up lawyer who tentatively opens her heart to another attorney. In the end, her lover cannot resolve the fact that Suzana was once a man.
What the press is saying about Spinelli on “Paulista:
“A courageous role… She is not played for shock value. She is not torn about her identity. She is not exploited. She is simply a woman who wants to be loved.”
The Desert Sun
“The exciting thing about this film is that a trans woman is cast in the role of a trans woman — something that is rarely seen, at least in the United States. In general, trans characters in U.S. films have been portrayed by non-trans actors. The film also presents Suzana as the most conservative character in the film — and a multifaceted character at that. The fact that she is a transsexual is just one part of her. She is so much more…”
